I was raised Catholic (but you may have figured that out when I disclosed I was the oldest of 11.) I am irritated by the fact that Catholics still don’t allow women priests! So last year I was a Priest! I felt a bit of victory in doing that. 😊This year my sisters and I are going as Nuns! Not my choice but we will be a whole herd of nuns and one of my sisters will be a Bishop! Can’t take the rebellious spirit out of this family!
Best ever costume? Absolutely 2nd grade, totally homemade, including a papier-mâché mask, yellow yarn wig, purple tunic covered with aluminum foil stars and moons and cinched with a foil-wrapped wide belt. I was, of course, Miss Piggy from Pigs in Space. Not only was the costume ah-mazing, but I got to run around all day throwing punches to the air and exclaiming, “Hi-YA!” Pure magic, right there.
My mom was the one who gave out pencils (so embarrassing) so I was determined to be better. Then I ran into my aversion to buying conventional chocolate, which employs slave labor and steals water from communities. So, I settled on organic lollipops.
Neither tootsie rolls or candy corn. Reese’s peanut butter cups all the way. (I know! I know! Slave chocolate. But I don’t buy them. I just steal them from my children.)
As for this year’s costume, my kids are old enough to neither want nor need my company so I’m hoping I’ll be at my companion’s house in my birthday suit. Happy Samhain to me!
