Dear E. Jean:
My salary is not enough to live on. However, my job affords me almost everything else I could want from a career: great challenges, responsibility, creative projects, travel, opportunity to meet nice people, etc.
I asked for and received a large raise last year. So I'm doubtful the company will give me another this year. And I need one desperately because I have $60,000 worth of student loans to pay off, my credit is in jeopardy, and my lease is up. I need money for a new apartment. In New York, this means paying broker fees, first and last month's rent, and security. So for a $2,400-a-month studio, I need $9,600!
